Ukraine's Foreign Minister before NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting: We will talk about path to membership

Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, said that he will raise the issue of Ukraine’s path to future membership in the Alliance at the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission on Tuesday in Brussels.

Noting that today the Alliance celebrates the 74th anniversary of the Washington Treaty, and on this day Finland will become a member of NATO, Kuleba said that Ukraine strives to achieve a similar goal.

Quote: "We sincerely congratulate our Finnish friend on joining. Ukraine aims to achieve the same goal – to become a full member of NATO. This will be one of the topics of our conversation here in Brussels – how we can move forward," Kuleba said.

The minister expressed his conviction that "NATO and Ukraine need each other".

"It's very simple. While we appreciate the practical support we receive from the Alliance, there is no better strategic solution to guarantee strategic security in the Euro-Atlantic region than Ukraine's membership in the Alliance," Kuleba explained.

According to Kuleba, Ukraine's ambition is to advance as far as possible to membership in the Alliance at the summit in Vilnius in the summer.

Background: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, believes that the Alliance should propose further steps for Ukraine's membership at the summit – in particular, strategic security guarantees on its path to Euro-Atlantic integration.
