"Repressions against indigenous people": Zelenskyy responds to activist's detention in Crimea
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the detention of Abdureshit Dzhepparov, a human rights activist, in Russian-occupied Crimea is an example of Russian repressions against indigenous people.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "Today the occupiers broke into the house of Abdureshit Dzhepparov. He is one of the representatives of the Crimean Tatar national movement, a human rights activist, and a citizen of Ukraine. His current whereabouts are unknown, as is the state he is in. This is another example of Russian repressions against the indigenous people of Crimea, against all our people."
Details: Zelenskyy stressed that there have been "thousands and thousands" of similar cases of Russian repressions in Crimea and in other occupied regions of Ukraine.
Background:
- On 16 March, Abdureshit Dzhepparov’s home in Russian-occupied Crimea was illegally searched. Dzhepparov is a veteran of the Crimean Tatar national movement and a human rights activist.
- On 25 April, the Russian occupation court in Bilohirsk (Crimea) arrested Dzhepparov for 15 days.
- The Presidential Mission in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea criticised Dzhepparov’s detention.
