Russian metallurgists admit they expect "technological gap" with the West
More than half of managers of Russian mining and metallurgical companies predict a "technological gap" between themselves and metallurgical companies from developed countries in four or five years.
This is mentioned in a study by the Russian consulting company Yakov & Partners, which was previously part of the American company McKinsey, RBC reports.
As part of the study, experts interviewed more than 100 respondents from more than 30 Russian companies of various sizes and business lines.
According to the survey, a deep technological gap is more often predicted in Russian companies with a low level of digitalisation of production processes: 33% compared to 8% among companies with an average level. The latter mostly (46%) expect the situation to stabilise at the current level.
The most serious challenge, according to Russian business, was the departure of Western vendors of mining equipment and embedded systems.
55% of respondents reported difficulties with the introduction of digital tools due to restrictions in the supply of mining equipment, 45% reported difficulties with an automated process control system, and 39% – with an automated mining transport management system.
