Christodoulides held a meeting focused on sanctions on Tuesday and said that the goal of all those who participated in it was common, that is, "we will do everything possible to not allow anyone to tarnish the name of our country."

The President of Cyprus noted that this issue should be approached as an opportunity "to put an end to this particular issue once and for all. We cannot continue the talks."

When asked if the government of Cyprus receives information from the United States and the United Kingdom, Christodoulides replied that "when there is something more, be sure that I will inform you."

He said the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views with the Bar Association, the Capital Markets Commission and the Association of Accountants, and "we all agree that we will not allow anyone to tarnish the name of our country."

The President said that the state, the government and the private sector suffer greatly from such situations.

Quote: "Therefore, we are ready, as soon as we have all the evidence, to do everything necessary for the sole purpose that I told you about," he added.

Asked if specific names would be mentioned, Christodoulides advised that everyone stay  patient.

Quote: "I think that there will be new sanctions either from the USA, or from the UK, or from the EU. I repeat, everything that needs to be done will be done. This is an issue that we must [put an] end [to]," Christodoulides said.

Reminder: Cyprus has imposed sanctions on individuals named by the United States and the UK, as they help Russian oligarchs circumvent the sanctions imposed on Moscow over the war in Ukraine.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letimbiotis said earlier this week that Nicosia was ready to bring to justice all Cypriots whom the United States and Great Britain accused of helping oligarchs circumvent sanctions imposed because of the war.
