Quote: "The position of Hungary has not changed: we are on the side of peace and do not support any steps that may lead to the escalation of the war; this is why we do not send neither armament nor soldiers to Ukraine."
"Nevertheless, as a neighbouring country, within the framework of the biggest humanitarian act in the history of the country, Hungary helps those in trouble and those who need help. We helped Ukraine treat injured Ukrainian soldiers, and the Armed Forces of Hungary also partake in the training of Ukrainian military medics with humanitarian purposes," the Hungarian Defence Ministry added.
The statement was made after Jaroslav Naď, the Minister of Defence of Slovakia, reported on Monday, 6 March that the Ukrainian soldiers were training in Hungary.
"Hungarians help as well, even though you don’t know about it, and propaganda is claiming they do not. But do you know that the Ukrainian soldiers are undergoing training in the territory of Hungary? You probably are not aware of this," Nad’ stated.
Yet the Hungarian government officially does not let the cargoes with NATO armament pass through its territory, and Hungary is the only Western state that does not supply Ukraine with any military equipment, as it believes that this will only prolong the war.
On the first anniversary of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, called for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and stated that Russia cannot win.
