Ukraine's Security Service to investigate shooting of Ukrainian soldier
The Security Service of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings regarding a video in which Russian invaders shot a Ukrainian soldier right after he said, "Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine)!"
Source: Andriy Kostin, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, on Facebook
Quote: "The video of an unarmed man's brutal and brazen shooting shook society today. The Main Investigative Department of the Security Service of Ukraine registered a criminal proceeding under Article 438.2 of the Criminal Code – violating the laws and customs of war. Procedural management will be carried out by prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office."
Details: Kostin emphasised that the laws apply even to war, while the Russian regime systematically disregards the norms of international law.
Quote: "Sooner or later, the crime will be punished. All those involved will answer to the Law."
More details: At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, appealed on Twitter to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, with a call to "launch an immediate ICC investigation into this heinous war crime".
Background: On 6 March, Ukrainian society was outraged by a video recording of Russian soldiers apparently shooting an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war after he said, "Glory to Ukraine".
This event caused quite a stir. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reacted. He posted only three phrases on social networks: "Glory to heroes! Glory to heroes! Glory to Ukraine!"
