Quote: "The second important result this week is [observed in the] energy [sector]; this is the beginning of preparation for the next heating season – already now. We are working out all the scenarios and will do everything to approach next winter being ready for any threat."
Details: Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian power engineers, government officials, the security and defence sector and all those involved in the implementation of relevant tasks must do very specific things within six months; they need to "strengthen the protection of energy facilities, restore the infrastructure that was destroyed by Russian strikes in the past six months, to give more opportunities to our people within the project of decentralisation of the energy system, so that people can generate and supply electricity on their private territory, on their private facilities."
"This is a great deal of work, which has begun," the president assured.
Background:
- On 4 March, Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, said that Ukraine ends the heating season with a surplus of capacity and sufficient reserves of gas and coal. He also emphasised that preparations for the next heating season have already begun.
- Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine would strengthen the protection of electricity distribution systems and generation facilities with shelters and air defence systems by the next heating season.
