Quote: "27 March. Avdiivka. I would like to post a message that primarily concerns journalists and volunteers.
Avdiivka is in the ‘red zone’, therefore visiting and entering the city by representatives of the press, even accredited ones, is prohibited. This also applies to volunteers. In connection with the aggravation of the situation in and around the city.
Therefore, we have an order – a direct ban on visiting."
Details: Barabash confirmed that the Stepanych UA Telegram channel belongs to him in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda.
He called on media representatives and volunteers to not violate this ban and not try to enter the city.
Background:
- Barabash reported on 26 March that public utility workers will be evacuated from the city of Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, where active military operations continue.
- The UK Ministry of Defence reported on 20 March that the situation in Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, is tactically similar to what is happening in Bakhmut. In particular, according to intelligence data, Ukrainian troops continue their organised defence, but their "supply lines to the west are under increasing threat due to the Russian encirclement operation".
- The Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the situation in Avdiivka in the near future may become similar to that in Bakhmut.
- Despite constant shelling by the occupiers, almost 2,000 people remain in Avdiivka and refuse to leave. The civilian population practically lives in basements.
- On 24 March, Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, spokesman for Ukraine’s defence forces on the Tavriia front, said that the Avdiivka front is one of the hottest spots in Ukraine, but the Russian occupation forces there are running out of steam, just as they are on the Bakhmut front.
