Wednesday, 22 March 2023, 19:25

Serbia's position on not joining the EU sanctions regime against Russia because of its war against Ukraine has not changed.

Source: Ivica Dačić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, during a press conference in Vienna with his Austrian counterpart, Alexander Schallenberg, reports European Pravda, citing Ukrinform

Details: "A year ago, we stated our position during a meeting of the Security Council. And our position is clear: we always condemn the violation of the territorial integrity of every country, including Ukraine. But we also did not join the restrictive measures, and this position has not changed," the Serbian minister commented on the issue of sanctions against Russia.

According to Dačić, if there is a need to reconsider this position, "the competent institutions will inform about it."

Background: On 13 March, Rade Basta, Minister of Economy of Serbia, called for the introduction of sanctions against Russia as soon as possible, as the country is under enormous pressure and the full-scale war in Ukraine is unlikely to end quickly.

Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said that he could not "swear" that Serbia would not impose sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
