Direct losses from Russian attacks on Ukrainian power plants nearing US$155 million
Direct losses from damage and destruction of the power generating facilities of DTEK Energo [Ukraine’s largest investor in the energy sector - ed.] caused by Russian attacks are nearing US$155 million.
This has been reported by the company’s press service.
DTEK emphasises that over the last six months, the DTEK thermal power plants alone were attacked 29 times, and over 1,000 units of equipment have been damaged.
"In order to get ready for the next heating season in these conditions, the company has started scheduled repairs of the power units at the thermal power stations in advance, in addition to reconstruction works. There are plans to finish the first repairs by the end of the month.
Overall, DTEK plans to repair 28 power units at their thermal power plants," says the message.
"Direct losses from the damage and destruction of the power generating facilities of the company are nearing UAH 6 billion. With large-scale damage, entering the next heating season will be as hard as entering the current one.
What could aid in this is a joint programme to restore the Ukrainian energy sector, and thermal generation in particular, which would consolidate international aid, state support, the possibilities of obtaining loans from international financial institutions, and so on. A faster repair of power generating facilities would also be aided by debt repayment for power generation on the balancing market. These debts to us alone amount to more than UAH 2.2 billion (US$51 million – ed.)," said the CEO of DTEK Energo, Ildar Saleev.
