The painting was stolen by the Russian military in November 2022.

The picture shows only a fragment of the painting, so the identification process took some time.

"The assumptions were made right away, but the photo of the painting was made in an angle. And for some time, there were doubts whether it was even there. It is not until we ‘did some magic’ with graphic programs, deformed the visible part [of the photo – ed.] and superimposed it on the photo of the original painting, everything coincided. In addition, the frame is the same as on the original painting," said the scientific employee of the museum.

Before the beginning of restoration work in the Kherson Museum, the Seascape was exhibited in the concert hall.

At the beginning of November, the painting was taken out and was photographed in the Simferopol Museum.

It is not known where the painting is located at the moment.

The collection of the Oleksiy Shovkunenko Kherson Art Museum included more than 13,000 works of art.

Among the exhibits were the works by Ivan Aivazovsky, Oleksiy Shovkunenko, Mykola Pymonenko, August von Bayer, as well as the icons Yurii the Snake Fighter with the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, The Virgin Calm My Sorrows and others.

The fact that the Russian occupiers are taking away the collection of the Art Museum with trucks was revealed by the people of Kherson.

Later, the paintings from the Kherson Museum were exhibited at the Simferopol Art Museum.
