Details: The Republic of Poland has requested to buy 18 M142 HIMARS launchers; 468 HIMARS Launcher Loader Module kits; 45 M57 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS); and a total of 1,514 multiple launch rocket system warhead pods.
Poland has also requested reduced range practice rockets; support equipment; communications equipment; spare and repair parts; other related equipment; personnel training and US government and contractor engineering and logistics personnel services.
"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe," the DSCA said.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region and will have no adverse impact on US defence readiness, according to the DSCA.
Background: The first contract for the purchase of American HIMARS systems was signed in 2019. The Polish Ministry of National Defense ordered 20 HIMARS systems from the US defence corporation Lockheed Martin. It intended to use two of the artillery rocket systems in combat and two for training.
In May 2022 Poland said it was planning to order around 500 more HIMARS from the US.
