Rosatom affiliated companies connect Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Russian power grid
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has evidence that companies affiliated to Rosatom [Russian state nuclear corporation – ed.], which have been sanctioned in Ukraine, are involved in the alienation of the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia NPP in favour of Russia.

Quote: "At the initiative of Ukraine’s Security Service, sanctions have been imposed against 200 Russian companies that are trying to ‘take away’ Zaporizhzhia NPP from Ukraine."
Details: Rosatom companies are involved in the ‘alienation’ of ZNPP in favour of the aggressor state Russia.
In particular, the SSU has evidence that employees of Rosatom and related companies of the corporation:
- took control of technological and management processes at ZNPP;
- facilitate the connection of the nuclear power plant to the Russian energy system;
- are trying to legalise the operation of ZNPP in Russia by creating illegitimate Russian companies: Zaporizhzhya NPP Operator JSC and Zaporizhzhya NPP Federal State Unitary Enterprise, which are included in the structure of Rosatom.
Russian occupying forces seized Zaporizhzhia NPP in March 2022.
In 2022, Ukraine imposed sanctions on Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom.
Background:
- On 5 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted the decision of the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) of Ukraine on imposing economic sanctions on the Russian corporation Rosatom and 199 companies that are part of this corporation.
- The restrictive measures will be in effect for the next 50 years and will apply to all financial and economic transactions of these institutions.
- Ukraine, as well as some EU countries, have been calling for sanctions against Russia's nuclear sector, including Rosatom, for months, pointing to its involvement in the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The disclosure of Rosatom's role in supporting the Russian arms industry will now increase pressure to include it in the sanctions list.
