Quote: "It is now important to make an accurate assessment of our efforts, to see our weak points and understand where we need to improve. To do this, we are adopting a resolution on internal check (or self-audit) of Ukrainian legislation for its compliance with European standards," the Prime Minister said.
Details: According to the Cabinet of Ministers decision, ministries and central executive authorities must conduct a self-audit by 30 June, 2023, and submit a report to the government with suggestions on how to harmonise sectoral legislation in line with EU law by 30 August.
The process will be coordinated by Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
Background: Following the EU-Ukraine summit held in Kyiv in early February, the Ukrainian side expressed its intention to prepare a National Program for Adaptation of the Acquis based on the European Commission's opinion on Ukraine's application for EU membership.
"The EU stands ready to provide technical support to the Government of Ukraine in this important step towards harmonising Ukrainian legislation with EU law," the summit communiqué read.
Earlier on 28 February, as Ukraine applied to join the European Union exactly one year ago, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that this year was the time to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
