Wagner Group founder complains about lack of ammunition: twice as many occupiers get killed

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and owner of Wagner Group PMC, has accused the Russian military leadership of not giving the Wagner soldiers ammunition that is available in the army's ammunition storage points.

Quote: "As people say, s**t boils, blood boils, but the questions I asked about ammunition, unfortunately, remain completely unresolved. And it is a very serious problem... Moreover, I know the ammunition storage points, I know the batch numbers, box numbers; I clearly understand where and what is located and I know that these ammunitions are there. I cannot solve this problem, despite all my acquaintances, connections...

No one has any understanding of where any limits came from, where the receiving procedures come from. No one knows how to sign certain documents. Everyone nods somewhere upwards, saying 'You know, Yevgeny Viktorovich, you have a troublesome relationship over there', pointing their finger up and rolling their eyes, 'so you should go and apologise, and then your fighters will get ammunition'."

Details: According to Prigozhin, twice as many Wagner Group soldiers and members of "other military units that we cannot cover up" die every day in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine due to the lack of ammunition.

"Don't you actually have enough conscience to stop this bulls**t, to stop acting like a fly on a glass, to stop doing ruses? Applications are written every day, according to agreed regulations, they are submitted to the relevant authorities. But after that, no one knows who should give an answer and where they [troops – ed.] should go," the owner of Wagner PMC complained.

Prigozhin also stated that those who prevent his mercenaries from winning the war against Ukraine are "working for the enemy, helping the enemy to break the backbone of Russia."

"I don't blame anyone and I don't want to show anything to anyone, I'm just saying: leave your whims, your principles and give me ammunition. I'm not poking you in the nose that you eat breakfast, lunch and dinner from golden dishes and send your daughters, granddaughters and pets to relax in Dubai, not being ashamed of anything, at the moment when a Russian soldier is dying at the front. I'm just asking: give [us] ammunition," Prigozhin said.

Background:

  • On 9 February, Prigozhin announced that the recruitment of convicts to the recognised criminal private military company had been completely stopped
  • He named three main reasons why he was completely ousted from recruiting convicts in Russian colonies. One of the reasons is the opposition of the military leadership.
  • The ISW believes Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrov appears to have rejected overtures from Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin to join a renewed information campaign against the Russian Defence Ministry.
