The decision of the European Commission on the "oral assessment" of the implementation of seven criteria that Ukraine received together with the candidate status will allow Ukraine to complete the implementation of these EU requirements in the autumn.

Ursula von der Leyen, answering questions from European Pravda, stressed that the European Commission will adhere to its decision that the interim assessment of Kyiv's compliance with EU criteria will be carried out in the form of an "oral update of the enlargement report" and that only in the autumn Brussels will be ready to issue a written report on this issue.

"Indeed, we are preparing the oral update for EU member states. It will be made in the spring. And a full, detailed assessment where it will be discussed which of the seven steps has been completed and whether anything else needs to be done, we will see it in the autumn," the president of the European Commission said.

As it is known, the fulfilment of seven criteria is a necessary condition for Ukraine to move towards EU membership, including starting official accession negotiations.

Denys Shmyhal, however, is convinced that this interim assessment will be provided not only to the member states but also to Ukraine, and if necessary, it will allow Kyiv to work on its issues.

"An oral assessment will give us an understanding of whether we have completed the implementation of seven points... And in the autumn, when there is a big report, we will actually receive the final report (confirming the completion of seven criteria)," the prime minister told European Pravda.

Shmyhal also noted that in the autumn, Ukraine "will raise the issue of starting negotiations with the EU".
