Ukraine needs to import up to 2 gigawatts of electricity from EU – Ukraine's PM

Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, has stated about the request to discuss with international partners the need to increase electricity imports from the European Union countries to two gigawatts.

Quote: "Regarding energy issues, we hope to intensify our cooperation on the restoration and transformation of the energy sector of Ukraine. 

Today, we are talking about the need to expand the possibilities of electricity import into Ukraine to 2 gigawatts, to support projects on the decentralisation of our energy system, for example, to start a large-scale program of solar energy production by Ukrainian households and communities," Shmyhal said.

According to Shmyhal, Ukraine plans to expand the capacity of networks between Ukraine and EU countries, coordinate the issue of gas supply security, participate in joint gas purchases, and strengthen work for the implementation of the European Green Deal.
