S-300 missile fell in Briceni, Moldova, in December 2022

The fragments of a missile that fell in a garden of the Moldovan city of Briceni near the border with Ukraine during the attack on 5 December 2022, belong to an S-300 air defence system.

Source: European Pravda with reference to NewsMaker; Ana Revenco, Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova, at the government meeting on Wednesday, 1 January

Details: During the presentation of arguments in favour of the extension of state of emergency in Moldova, Revenco noted that there still was a high risk that Russian missiles would cross Moldova's airspace or "accidentally fall on our territory after being shot down by air defence systems".

Quote: "The last time when we detected a missile on the territory of Moldova was on 5 December 2022 in Briceni. As a result of the preliminary investigation, it was found that those parts of the missile are fragments of an S-300 air defence system missile. On 14 January of this year, the component parts were found in the vicinity of Larga checkpoint in Bruceni district; we think they belong to an S-300 system."

The words of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova indicate that most likely, the missiles that fell on the territory of the country during large-scale Russian attacks belong to Ukraine.

Background: Officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova found a missile near the border with Ukraine, in the vicinity of the town of Briceni, on 5 December. In addition, the country's national energy company Moldelectrica reports about power supply interruptions in Moldova.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that the fall of missiles on the territory of Moldova after Russia's missile strike on Ukraine once again proved that Russian missile terror posed huge threats not only to the security of Ukraine but also to the security of neighbouring countries.

A similar incident occurred on the morning of 31 October 2022: fragments of a missile shot down by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft system fell on the territory of Moldova after a drone attack on the Dnister dam on Ukrainian territory, 1 km from the dam in the village of Naslavcea.
