Quote: "The Russians have not yet understood that we are stronger today than we were a year ago, and they will never succeed in capturing Ukraine, as they hoped."
"We are preparing for a short war and for our victory. The sooner it happens, the fewer victims we will have. In 2014, the conflict froze, and it did not work to our advantage. The Minsk agreements gave Putin time to prepare for a surprise attack last year, and we will not fall into the same trap again. Our soldiers are more motivated because they are protecting their families and their homes.
On the other hand, we saw that economic sanctions against Moscow are a great help; they give us time and space for self-organisation."
Details: Asked if it is worth losing people to protect the small town of Bakhmut, Zelenskyy answered that it is important for Ukraine to protect it, but not at any cost and not so that everyone dies.
"We will fight as long as it is reasonable. The Russians then want to continue the offensive to Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, as far as the borders of Donbas and as far as Dnipro, if they can. We are resisting, and simultaneously, we are preparing the next counteroffensive," Zelenskyy said.
Asked if he was afraid that if this war dragged on, then the support of the allies might disappear at some point, the president replied: "No one likes to fight alone. But anyone who thinks that at some point they can abandon us means that they do not understand the deep motivation of our battle. We are not three hundred Spartans and do not feel like heroes; we know that Europe and those who understand the danger of the Russian threat stand behind us".
At the same time, in an interview with Rai TV channel, when asked whether he was afraid of a new Russian offensive, Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian troops are now much stronger than Russian ones.
Quote from Zelenskyy: "Of course, they cannot go further; they are not as powerful as they were before. We are much stronger than they are now.
We know that if we lose, we will lose everything: homes, children and parents, so it doesn't matter to us whether it's an old or a new offensive. After what happened on 24 February last year, there are no more compromises. International law was violated; everything human that can be human was violated. We are not afraid of them. No one is afraid of them; everything is not going according to their plans."
