French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that crushing Russia has never been France’s position and never will be, although he wants Russia to be defeated in the war with Ukraine.

Quote: "I want Russia to be defeated in Ukraine, and I want Ukraine to be able to defend its position, but I am convinced that in the end, this will not end militarily…

I do not believe, as some people think, that Russia has to be completely crushed and attacked on its own soil. Those observers want, above all else, to crush Russia. This has never been France’s position and it never will be."

Details: The French president highlighted that support for Kyiv needs to be "enhanced" in order to start moving towards "negotiations that deserve trust".

"Today, we need Ukraine to carry out a military counter-offensive that will break through the Russian front in order to bring about a return to negotiations," he stressed.

In Macron’s opinion, "neither side will be able to win completely".

The French president also pointed out that "all options within the current system [in Russia] other than Vladimir Putin seem to be worse" to him than the Russian president.
