Moldova's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summons Russia's ambassador after two missiles cross country's airspace

Nicu Popescu, the Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs, has ordered the urgent summoning of Oleg Vasnetsov, the Russian ambassador to Moldova, in order to point out the inadmissibility of violation of Moldovan airspace.

"The Russian side continues its aggressive war against Ukraine, and missile attacks on the neighbouring country directly and negatively affect the citizens of our country as well... We strongly condemn unfriendly actions and statements towards Moldova. We call on the Russian Federation to stop military aggression against the neighbouring country, which leads to numerous human casualties and material damage," Vodă said.

On 10 February, two Russian Kalibr cruise missiles crossed Ukraine's border with Moldova and flew into Romanian airspace, reported Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

After that, the missiles entered Ukrainian airspace again at the point where the borders of the three states meet.

The Ministry of Defence of Moldova later confirmed the violation of the airspace of Moldova at 10:18. The missile flew over the village of Mokra (Rybnytsky district, Transnistria) and then over Kosautsy (Sorok district).

As reported, during a missile attack in January, fragments of a missile fell on the territory of Moldova for the third time.

It should be noted that Moldova wants to criminalise missile attacks on Ukraine during which Russian missiles also cross Moldova's airspace. The very fact of the missile’s flight should be punished by imprisonment from 3 to 12 years, and if the missile injures or kills a person, the punishment increases to 10-20 years.

Massive strikes by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine on Friday morning [10 February] may be a reaction to the successful visit by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to European capitals.
