"Currently, 121 Ukrainian military personnel are undergoing training in Lithuania. A total of 1,600 are planned to be trained this year, and Lithuania has allocated €4 million for this," Lithuanian Defence Ministry reports.
In particular, there is currently ongoing training of mortar crews and training for conducting military-police operations. In addition, since the end of January, Ukrainians have been learning to operate L70 anti-aircraft guns and will be able to be instructors for others after coming back to Ukraine.
Ukraine's urgent need for the training of lower-level commanders, in particular company-level commanders, was also discussed at the meeting. The possibility of organising a six-week training for 50 to 100 people at the Military Academy of Lithuania is under consideration.
The Lithuanian Defence Ministry also highlighted that the total cost of military aid transferred to Ukraine reached €283 million. Among them are €2 million, which were transferred to an international special fund created by the UK to finance armoured vehicles, artillery and shells for Ukraine.
Background: The last large aid package from Lithuania in the amount of €125 million included Mi-8 helicopters, guns and ammunition.
