ANASTASIA ZHARIKOVA – FRIDAY, 6 JANUARY 2023, 18:00

Because of a significant fall in temperature and another possible Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Ukrainians have to be ready for emergency power cuts.

Quote: "Russia continues carrying out attacks on our energy field. The enemy launched two drone attacks in five days of the new year, after which generation and power transmission facilities were damaged. Attacks on the energy facilities in the east and south also continued."

Details: Shmyhal has added that warm weather and holidays led to the decrease in consumption, which gave a possibility not to implement power cuts during Christmas holidays.

Quote: "However, yesterday, on 5 January, the consumption increased; therefore, scheduled power cuts were implemented in the central and eastern regions, as well as in Odesa, Lviv and Dnipro [cities – ed.]. A significant fall in temperature is expected after today. Accordingly, the consumption will increase, and the deficit in Ukraine’s energy system will increase, too."

More details: The Prime Minister has said that the Russians are ready to launch another missile attack on civilian and energy infrastructure.

"Therefore, we all have to be ready for resumed emergency power cuts," Shmyhal summed up.

Background:

As of 11:00 on Friday, 6 January, electricity consumption continues to rise in Ukraine due to the cold weather, limits are in effect in all oblasts.
