Ukrainian President's Office responds to Moscow Patriarch's "Christmas truce" proposal
Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President, has said that the "Christmas truce" proposed by the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, is a cynical trap.

Details: According to Podoliak, the Russian Orthodox Church is not an authority for global Orthodoxy and acts only as a "war propagandist".
He recalled that the Russian Orthodox Church has called for the genocide of Ukrainians, incited mass murder, and is pushing for even greater militarisation in Russia.
Background:
- On 5 January, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, who has publicly approved of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine, suddenly claimed that he is calling for a "Christmas truce".
- Kirill has previously stated that the occupiers in Ukraine are protecting Russia and are "guided by an internal moral sense based on the Orthodox faith".
- Kirill also made a speech in the Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation praising young Russians who join the ranks of the army and go off to kill Ukrainians.
- However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not going to cease fire to celebrate anything until Russia withdraws its troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
