Russians damage power facility in Ukraine's east, weather wrecks distribution networks in central oblasts
As of 11:00 on Thursday, 5 January, electricity consumption in Ukraine continues to grow due to lower temperatures and activation of industry and business after holidays, as well as due to weather conditions; thus, there is much damage to the distribution networks of the central Oblast.
This is reported by the Ukrenergo press service [Ukraine's national power regulator].
To keep balance in the energy system, the regulator has set power consumption limits for the time from 8:00 to 23:00 in all areas. Exceeding these will lead to the application of emergency restrictions.
It is also noted that currently, during the night period, power plants produce enough electricity to cover the citizens' consumption needs.
However, due to unfavourable weather conditions, there is some damage in the distribution networks of the country's central region. Repair teams of regional power companies restore power at these facilities.
"Last night in the country's east, one of the energy infrastructure facilities was damaged due to Russian shelling. Also, in the frontline regions in the East and South, the situation with electricity supply remains difficult due to significant damage to power grids and high activity of military operations," Ukrenergo added.
Consumers are urged to use electricity wisely and use energy-intensive devices sequentially.
