Wagner Group recruits political prisoners from Chechnya

Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence states that Russian private military company Wagner Group has begun to recruit convicts from the correctional institutions of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation.

Details: Most of the prisoners were convicted for political reasons.

In the colony settlement No.3 in the city of Argun (Chechen Republic), as well as in the correctional facility No.2 of the village of Chernokozovo (Naur district of the Chechen Republic), the process of recruiting prisoners to the ranks of Wagner Group is ongoing.

The process is beginning to take on a mass character, Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence notes. Thus, more than 50 convicts were "mobilised" from both colonies; most of these were convicted on fabricated cases.

Work is currently being done with the employees of the colonies to prevent the leakage of information, the Intelligence indicates.
