Belarus will host joint staff training with Russia in preparation for war participation
The military of Belarus have announced the beginning of a two-week joint staff training with the Russians of the so-called Joint Command of the regional group of troops.

Quote: "During the week, representatives of the military departments of the two states will work out joint planning for the use of troops based on the experience of armed conflicts in recent years, following the topic 'Decision on the use of a regional grouping of troops (forces) in the interests of ensuring the military security of the Union State'."
Details: According to the Belarusian Defence Ministry, the joint exercises are aimed at "increasing the interoperability of the military command of the two states".
They are also another stage of preparation for the Union Shield 2023 joint operational exercise, which will take place on the territory of Russia in September 2023.
Background:
- On 25 January, the Russian and Belarusian military forces practised paratrooper landing in Belarus as part of joint exercises.
- On 27 January, the EU emphasised that Belarus should stop providing military support to Russia, and any direct participation of the Belarusian military in Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine will be accompanied by "new and strong restrictive measures".
