Details: Robles explained that the tanks to be sent will be the Leopard 2 A4 tanks currently in disuse at the Zaragoza base. However, he has not confirmed how many tanks will be sent.
"It is not only about sending tanks, but also about training crews and ensuring adequate maintenance," said Robles during a visit to Spanish troops stationed in Latvia as part of the NATO deployment there.
"We are going to look at the necessary repairs. The allies' plan to [send tanks to Ukraine] in spring. The physical presence of the Leopards [on the battlefield] will not be necessary before that, and we are going to take advantage of that time for training," he added.
Robles explained that Germany has sent a letter to Spain asking it to collaborate in the training of tank crews.
Previously: Spain's Defence Minister said on 25 January that Madrid was open to providing Ukraine with German-made Leopard 2 tanks, after Germany agreed to send the tanks and said NATO allies could do the same.
