Dzhaparova states that the expansion of the Crimean Platform by the countries of the Global South is confirmation that the issue of Crimea’s liberation is a priority for the whole world.

The diplomat emphasised that, thanks to the platform, Ukraine has brought back Crimea to the international agenda and mobilised a whole coalition of states around our national interest.

She announced an even greater deployment of the Crimean Platform in 2023. After all, it has potential and is already becoming a platform for liberation not only of Crimea, but also of all other occupied Ukrainian territories.

Quote: "On the eve of the anniversary of the Russian Federation's aggression and full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we are actively planning the Black Sea Security Conference as well as other joint events with partners in the Crimean Platform.

There is also a clear desire among our MPs and the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada [Ukrainian Parliament - ed.] to develop the parliamentary track. I am sure that this year the Crimean Platform will continue to grow both quantitatively and qualitatively and will change its focus from liberation to the reintegration of our territories."

Background:

  • On 23 August 2021, the founding summit of the Crimean Platform, Ukraine's first negotiating platform on Crimea’s liberation, was held in Kyiv.
  • Representatives of 47 states and international organisations attended the summit and approved a joint intergovernmental decision on how to act to stop the annexation of Crimea and bring it back. This document confirmed that the peninsula is Ukrainian and that the actions of the Russian Federation in Crimea since 2014 are aggression and occupation.
  • In August 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the Crimean Platform initiative would expand and host more participants.
