Canada will supply Ukraine with 4 Leopard 2 tanks
Anita Anand, Canada's Minister of Defence, announced the supply of four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine at a briefing on Thursday, 26 January.

Quote: "I announce that Canada will supply Ukraine with four Leopard 2 main combat tanks in the coming weeks. This announcement, along with the aid from our allies and partners, will greatly help the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their heroic fight for the protection of freedom and the sovereignty of their nation."
The Leopard 2 tanks will allow Ukraine to "liberate more territories and protect people from the brutal Russian aggression".
"These tanks are combat-ready and will be provided in the coming weeks. We will also task a certain number of members of the Canadian Armed Forces with training Ukrainian soldiers and teaching them the skills necessary for operating this military equipment during the process of coordination with our allies," Anand specified.
When explaining the decision to provide only four units, Anand stated that Canada has 82 Leopard 2 tanks in service without specifying how many of them are ready for combat use.
On Wednesday, 25 January the German government officially approved the decision to supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Leopard 2 main battle tanks and allow re-export to the countries willing to do it.
Moreover, Joe Biden, the President of the USA, confirmed that the USA plans to supply Ukraine with 31 M1 Abrams tanks, which is equal to one Ukrainian battalion, in order to strengthen its defence capacity during the Russian aggression. Along with providing tanks, the USA will facilitate the training of Ukrainian troops and provide spare parts "as soon as possible".
