Quote from Skurkiewicz: "I am convinced that the transfer of Leopard tanks by Poland to Ukraine will take place within a few weeks".
The deputy minister stressed that Poland was ready to transfer one Leopard company, 14 units, to Ukraine. He recalled the statement of Mariusz Błaszczak, the head of the Ministry of Defense, that as soon as other countries decide to transfer tanks, Poland will immediately begin training Ukrainians on this equipment.
"As soon as they (Ukrainians) pass the study, we will be ready to transfer this equipment to the Ukrainian side," Skurkiewicz said. "I am convinced that this is the prospect of several weeks," he explained.
The Deputy Defence Minister stressed that Poland is very intensively forming a coalition of countries on tanks and reminded that now there are more than 2,000 Leopard tanks in Europe. "We expect that at the first stage, we will be able to assemble at least a brigade, about 100 Leopards, which we will be able to transfer jointly to the Ukrainian side," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the German government officially announced the decision to transfer Leopard-2 main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and allow re-export to other countries that also want to do so.
According to Spiegel, at this stage, the European allies are discussing the joint transfer of a total of 80 main battle tanks to Ukraine Leopard 2 to establish two battalions of 40 vehicles each.
