The operator recalls that power plants and a high-voltage network were damaged as a result of Russian attacks. The latest Russian attack on 14 January significantly damaged several power units of thermal power plants, and electricity production at the operating power plants cannot fully cover consumption.
On Wednesday, scheduled power outages continue in Ukraine, and consumption limits that apply throughout the day have been brought to all oblast power companies. Exceeding the limits leads to risks of creating emergencies in the power system, so in this case, emergency shutdowns are used to prevent them.
Over the past day, energy infrastructure in the frontline areas in the south and east of Ukraine was damaged due to artillery attacks. Where the military granted permission, repair work continues.
The Ukrainian energy system has already survived 12 invader missile attacks and 14 UAV strikes on power facilities. More than 10 GW of main capacities are currently unavailable due to Russian occupation: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vuhlehirsk TPP, Kakhovka HPP. In addition, most wind and solar power plants are also located in the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine.
