Ukraine’s defence forces repel Russian attacks near 12 settlements – General Staff report

On 20 January, Ukraine’s defence forces repelled Russian attacks near 12 settlements in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts.

Quote: "Over the course of the past 24 hours, enemy forces carried out 7 missile strikes (including 3 on Kramatorsk and Huliaipole) and 15 airstrikes. They deployed multiple-launch rocket systems [MLRS] to carry out 68 further attacks, including several strikes on civilian infrastructure in Nikopol.

Over the course of the past 24 hours, [Ukraine’s] defence forces repelled the occupiers’ attacks in the vicinity of Novoselivske, Ploshchanka and Chervonopopivka in Luhansk Oblast; and Bilohorivka, Rozdolivka, Vasiukivka, Krasna Hora, Yahidne, Bakhmut, Predtechyne, Vodiane and Marinka in Donetsk Oblast.

Areas in and around Volfyne in Sumy Oblast and Huriv Kozachok, Veterynarne, Strilecha, Zelene, Ternova, Starytsia, Ohirtseve, Vovchansk, Vilcha, Budarky, Krasne Pershe, Kamianka, Fyholivka and Dvorichna in Kharkiv Oblast came under Russian mortar and artillery fire."

Details: No Russian offensive groups have been reported on the Volyn, Polissia, Sivershchyna or Slobozhanshchyna fronts, though Russia continues to deploy several units in the area. Russian Armed Forces in Belarus are conducting active reconnaissance operations at various facilities in countries neighbouring Belarus, including Ukraine.

On the Kupiansk front, Russian forces deployed tank guns, mortars and tubed and rocket artillery to fire on areas in and around Tavilzhanka, Vilshana, Orlianka, Kupiansk, Krokhmalne, Pishchane, Berestove and Vyshneve (Kharkiv Oblast) and Novoselivske and Stelmakhivka (Luhansk Oblast).

On the Lyman front, Russian forces used all weapons at their disposal to fire on areas in and around Novoyehorivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Ploshchanka, Holykove, Chervonopopivka, Kreminna and Dibrova (Luhansk Oblast).

On the Bakhmut front, Verkhnokamianske, Vyimka, Spirne, Bilohorivka, Rozdolivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Pivnichne, Zalizne, Kurdiumivka and Maiorsk (Donetsk Oblast) came under Russian fire.

On the Avdiivka front, Russian forces attacked Kamianka, Avdiivka, Vesele, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Novopavlivka front, Russian forces shelled Vuhledar, Bohoiavlenka and Velyka Novosilka (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Zaporizhzhia front, Russian tank guns and mortars inflicted damage on Vremivka and Novopil (Donetsk Oblast); and Olhivske, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Charivne, Bilohiria, Novodanylivka, Orikhiv, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamianske and Plavni (Zaporizhzhia Oblast).

On the Kherson front, Russian occupation forces once again deployed tubed and rocket artillery to shell Marhanets and Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast), as well as Antonivka and Kherson (Kherson Oblast). There were civilian casualties.

Ukrainian aircraft conducted 18 airstrikes on areas of concentration of Russian occupation forces and four more on Russian anti-aircraft missile systems.

The General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces shot down two Orlan-10 and a Merlin-VR reconnaissance UAVs.

Ukraine’s Rocket Forces and Artillery struck a Russian command post, two concentrations of Russian military personnel and an ammunition storage point.
