Background: Earlier, the UK pledged to play a leading role in the core group of like-minded partners seeking to prosecute Russia for its illegal invasion of Ukraine.
On 19 January, the European Parliament voted for a non-binding resolution calling for the creation of a special international tribunal to prosecute the crime of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The members of the European Parliament believe that the tribunal should bring to justice not only the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, but also the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and the leadership of Belarus.
