Ukrainian President's Office and Air Force mock Moscow for deploying air defence on roofs of buildings

The Office of the President of Ukraine and the Air Force have mocked the deployment of air defence systems in Moscow on the roofs of residential buildings.

Source: Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to the Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine, on Twitter; Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, during the 24/7 national joint newscast on 19 January

Details: Podoliak emphasised that the deployment of air defence systems, in particular Pantsir S-1 anti-aircraft system, on the roofs of residential buildings raises two questions:

Quote: "Doesn't Lavrov [Sergei Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia – ed.] want to talk again about international humanitarian law and Russian air defense in residential areas?

Doesn't Putin/Peskov [Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his spokesman Dmitry Peskov] want to explain the concept of ‘3-day SVO’ [the way Russian propaganda calls the war against Ukraine – ed.] again & prove that ‘it's the plan’?"

More details: Commenting on the information about the Pantsir S-1 SAM system on the roof of the Russian Defence Ministry, Yurii Ihnat said that "it's like Ivan the Fool riding a stove" [i.e., extremely silly decision – ed.] and emphasised that there was nothing to be surprised about.

Background:

  • On the evening of 19 January, photos and videos of air defence systems on the roofs of buildings and sites in Moscow began to appear online. At least five such cases are currently known.
  • In particular, a photo of the building of the Russian Ministry of Defence on Frunzenskaya Embankment, where the Pantsir-S1 was deployed, has been posted.
  • On the morning of 20 January, a video appeared, in which the author states that the air defence system was installed 10 km away from the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
