Burns, concussions and bruises: state of victims after helicopter crash in Brovary

Victims of the helicopter crash in Brovary are being assisted in the regional hospital, as well as in the Kyiv Burn Centre.

Valentyn Bahnyuk, the chief doctor of Brovary Regional Hospital, spoke about this on the air of the national 24/7 newscast on January 18.

Initially, 24 patients, including 10 children, were brought to the reception department of the Brovary Regional Hospital.

So far, eight victims have already been transferred to the Kyiv Burn Center – in particular, four adults and just as many children. According to Bahnyuk, they suffered  body burns on 30 to 45 percent of their skin as a result of the fire that started after the crash of the Emergency Service helicopter near kindergarten.

Currently, 16 patients remain in the Brovary Regional Hospital, including 10 adults and 6 children.

As the Head Doctor said, they are assisted in the surgical department, as well as in traumatology and the gynaecology departments. Currently, those hospitalised are in a stable condition, receiving medical and psychological assistance.

He also listed the injuries that the victims received as a result of the plane crash. These are, in particular, burns, abrasions, concussions and bruises.

He also confirmed that there is also a pregnant woman among the victims.

"She is under the supervision of medical staff in the gynaecological department," Bahnyuk affirmed.

In addition, Iryna Navolneva, the press secretary of the Dobrobut medical centre, informed Ukrainska Pravda.Zhittya that 9 more injured persons were brought to the medical facility as of 16:00.

"Two children and one adult were treated with minor injuries, the injuries from broken glass and light burns. Six sought help from a psychologist; 4 of them were children who were in kindergarten at the time of the plane crash. All received the necessary help," the press secretary said.

According to the latest updates from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as of 16:00, the number of victims is 25, including 11 children.

On 18 January, a tragic helicopter crash took place in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast, in which 14 people died, including the top leadership of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, who were in the helicopter.
