After Russian Forces Commander's appointment, there will be no one more to blame for failures – Ukraine's Security Council Secretary
Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, believes that the latest change in the military leadership of the Russian army [the demotion of Sergei Surovikin, previous commander of the Russian Armed Forces in the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, and appointment of Valerii Gerasimov – ed.] signifies preparation for the final advance of the occupiers.

Quote: "Understanding what is happening in Russia, we suppose that they are getting ready to perform their so-called ‘last ditch effort’. We are more than convinced that today’s processes of shuffling personnel [i.e. military leadership – ed.] have a connection to this…
The very appointment of Gerasimov suggests that this is the last opportunity for them. After that, there will be no one to replace him with, there will be no one to blame for the defeats that they will surely experience on our territory. They are preparing for it, and we must prepare for it."
Details: According to Danilov, due to their love for symbolism, the Russians may be preparing such an "advance" on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion on 24 February.
According to him, it can also happen in March.
Background:
- Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, has stated that Ukraine should prepare for a new Russian offensive in the spring from the areas it has already occupied in the country’s south and east.
- In December 2022, Reznikov told The Guardian that Russian troops are preparing for a major new offensive in February 2023.
- Reznikov's statement about a possible new Russian offensive coincided with similar statements by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhnyi, and the commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with The Economist.
- Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has stated that Russians are preparing about 200,000 new soldiers; he has no doubt they will attack the city of Kyiv again.
- According to him, in January, but most likely in the spring, the Russian Federation can launch a major offensive from Donbas in the east, from the south, or even from Belarus.
