Details: Russian media published a photo of the medal.
Although the Russians in all their reports write about the alleged "liberation" of Ukrainian cities, the medal says "for the capture of Soledar".
The Ukrainian authorities emphasise that fighting continues for the city of Soledar in Donetsk Oblast, despite the statement of the Russian Ministry of Defence about the alleged capture of the city.
Evgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the Wagner PMC [Russian private military company – ed.], has said that his group of mercenaries are "constantly robbed of victories", alluding to the report of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation on the alleged capture of the Ukrainian city of Soledar.
Background:
- The Russian Defence Ministry has made an official statement about the capture of the city of Soledar in Donetsk Oblast.
- The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the fighting for Soledar in Donetsk Oblast continues.
- In April, Denis Pushilin, Russian proxy head of the "DPR" [the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic – ed.], established a "medal" "For the liberation of Mariupol".
- Russia expected to capture key cities and Ukraine as a whole within a few days after the invasion. The invaders, who went on the offensive, brought ceremonial military uniforms with pinned medals with them. A whole pile of such clothes was found in one of the rented garages in Irpin near Kyiv. The invaders were finally driven out from Kyiv Oblast.
- And the defenders of Ukraine captured a Russian parade tank in Sumy. St. George's ribbons were painted on the sides of Russian vehicles, and the Russian flag was on top of it. The occupiers were driven away from Sumy Oblast as well.
