"Regarding Vilnius. Today, simply supporting Ukraine in the form of rhetoric about open doors is not enough. Namely, it is not enough to motivate our state, and to be more specific, it is not enough to motivate our soldiers," Zelenskyy said.
He gave the example of the obtained status of a candidate for accession to the European Union as a concrete decision that motivates Ukraine.
"We need to take steps forward. The decision will be made in Vilnius. We are very much expecting powerful steps. We are expecting something more than an open door. Such things are motivating, like the EU candidacy. That all this is true; that we are not being fed with promises; and that we are really seen as equals. The opening of the dialogue on accession to the EU this year motivates us to fight. Just like the steps forward at the Vilnius Summit," said the president.
As reported by European Pravda, Ukraine's accession to NATO is considered by the majority of Ukrainian citizens to be the best option for guaranteeing national security after Russian aggression.
In addition, more than two-thirds of Ukrainians are against abandoning the intention to join NATO in exchange for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territories.
The Secretary General of NATO stated that the primary task for the allied countries is to help Ukraine in the war with Russia, and only after victory will it be possible to talk about full membership.
