Most Ukrainians believe in Ukraine's accession to EU in coming years and "as soon as war ends"
Most Ukrainians believe that their country can join the European Union in the coming years.
European Pravda has cited results of a survey conducted by the think tank Info Sapiens and commissioned by the New Europe Center.
In total, 82% of respondents believe in the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union "as soon as the war ends" and in the future, within 5 years.
The largest share of respondents – 30.8% – believe that Ukraine can become a member of the EU even in the next year or two.
26.9% are convinced that this might happen as soon as the war ends; another 24.4% assume that it is possible in 4-5 years.
About 7% are too cautious to predict how long Ukraine's transition to the EU may last.
6.1% believe that Ukraine can join the EU in 10 years; 1.2% say it's possible within the next 20 years.
It is worth noting that the start of accession negotiations (after which Ukraine will need to adapt the legislation to the European one according to 35 negotiating chapters, closing them one by one) is technically impossible before autumn 2023.
In the same survey, the majority of Ukrainians called it fair that the European Union requires reforms from Ukraine in order to open negotiations on joining the bloc, although some of them believe that Ukraine deserves a more lenient assessment due to the fact that it will carry out reforms in conditions of war.
59% believe that the quality of preparation of European integration projects is more important than the pace, while 36.4% consider the pace to be more important.
About 60% of respondents consider it fair when EU officials remind Ukrainian officials about the problem of corruption in Ukraine and are convinced that the pressure of the European Union will help to overcome it.
