Over half of Ukrainians believe war with Russia contributed to EU decision to grant Ukraine candidate status
About 55% of Ukrainians believe that Russia's full-scale invasion contributed in some way to the European Union granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership.
European Pravda reports that this has been confirmed by the results of a survey conducted by the think tank Info Sapiens and commissioned by the New Europe Center.
26.3% of respondents said the war was a key factor in this decision, while 0.2% of respondents called it a gesture of solidarity.
The most popular answer was "[the EU made this decision] because of the war with Russia and thanks to the reforms implemented [in Ukraine]"; this is the opinion of 28.9% of respondents.
Other possible answers received less than 2% of responses.
More than 70% consider it fair that the European Union requires Ukraine to implement reforms in order to open the accession negotiations.
62% believe that this process can be launched before the end of the war.
