Quote: "It was here that Americans first heard Leontovych's famous Christmas tune 100 years ago and fell in love with it. Nowadays, the ‘Carol of the Bells' is an essential feature of Christmas for hundreds of millions of people in the US and around the world.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Olena Zelenska addressed the audience through a video link. The participation of the presidential couple underscored the importance of ‘Shchedryk’ and Ukrainian culture.

Ukraine is proud of Leontovych's work. Through his work, we convey Ukrainian culture and identity to the world. This is especially important now when Russia is trying to destroy our people. That is why the evening started with applause for the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."

Details: Kuleba noted that the Shchedryk Children's Choir from Kyiv, the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York and the Choir of Trinity Wall Street performed in front of an audience of thousands in the hall and online. The concert marked the centenary of the premiere of "Shchedryk".

The minister also said that the composer Trevor Weston performed a new composition to a poem written especially for this concert by Ukrainian writer and poet Serhiy Zhadan.

Kuleba added that part of the ticket sales would go to the reconstruction of Ukraine within the framework of the UNITED24 fundraising initiative. [UNITED24 was launched by Zelenskyy as the main venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine -ed.]
