In the event of new blackouts, utility companies should drain water from homes connected to the central heating system as quickly as possible to prevent water in the pipes freezing.

This was announced by Volodymyr Bondarenko, deputy mayor and secretary of the Kyiv City Council, on a joint newscast.

"In the event of a prolonged lack of electricity, utility companies will have to drain water from houses that are connected to the central heating system as soon as possible in order to prevent water from freezing in the pipes, as that may make the houses unsuitable for heating in the future," Bondarenko said.

He added that as of now, in addition to pumping station complexes, the list of stores that will work on backup power even if there is a full blackout is being updated. In case of prolonged blackouts, a separate hourly work schedule is also being applied for pumping station complexes.
