Russians attack on two fronts and attempt to improve tactical position on two others – General Staff report

Russian forces are on the offensive on the Lyman and Bakhmut fronts and are attempting to improve their tactical position on the Kupiansk and Avdiivka fronts.

Details: On 31 December between 12:40 to 14:30, the Russians launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. According to preliminary data, a total of about 20 missiles were launched. Several missiles did not reach Ukraine and fell on the territory of the Russian Federation (this information is being confirmed). The Ukrainian Air Force’s air defence destroyed 12 cruise missiles in Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi oblasts. In addition, a Russian Orlan-10 UAV, which was conducting aerial reconnaissance during the missile attack and trying to identify the positions of our air defence, was shot down in Kyiv Oblast. 

The occupiers also carried out 12 attacks from multiple-launch rocket systems on infrastructure in settlements in Donetsk and Kherson Oblasts.

On the Volyn, Polissia, Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts, there are no signs of formation of Russian offensive groups.

On the Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna fronts, the Russian army used artillery and mortars to attack areas in and around Khodyne, Atynske, Velyka Rybytsia, Zapsillia and Riasne in Sumy Oblast, as well as Udy, Strilecha, Alisivka, Krasne, Starytsia, Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Ternova and Katerynivka in Kharkiv Oblast. 

On the Kupiansk front, the invaders fired near the settlements of Lozova Persha, Zapadne, Masiutivka, Tokarivka, Kupiansk and Orlianske in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as Novoselivske, Stelmakhivka and Andriivka in Luhansk Oblast. 

On the Lyman front, Russian forces shelled Ploshchanka, Makiivka, Nevske and Dibrova in Luhansk Oblast, as well as Chervonopopivka, Terny and Torske in Donetsk Oblast. 

On the Bakhmut front, the Russians attacked the areas of 20 settlements, including Spirne, Soledar, Bakhmutske, Bakhmut, Kostiantynivka, Kurdiumivka, Maiorsk and Niu-York in Donetsk Oblast. 

On the Avdiivka front, Vesele, Avdiivka, Nevelske, Marinka, Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk Oblast came under fire.

On the Novopavlivka front, the Russians fired on Vremivka, Velyka Novosilka, Prechystivka, Vuhledar and Mykilske in Donetsk Oblast. 

On the Zaporizhzhia front, the invaders attacked the areas in and around 15 settlements with tanks, mortars and tubed artillery. Among them are Olhivske, Huliaipole, Stepove, Charivne and Dorozhnianka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. 

On the Kherson front, civilian infrastructure facilities in the settlement of Antonivka, Tokarivka, Mykolaivka and the city of Kherson were damaged in attacks.

The Ukrainian Air Force struck six clusters of Russian manpower and one position of anti-aircraft missile systems; in addition, Ukrainian Rocket Forces and Artillery units struck two clusters of manpower and military equipment, as well as one command post.
