Russia launches missiles after overnight drone attack, air defence operating in various oblasts of Ukraine

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with drones on the night of 28-29 December, and with cruise missiles on the morning of 29 December – air defence forces may be operating throughout the territory of Ukraine.

Quote from Air Force Command: "After a night attack by kamikaze drones, the enemy is attacking Ukraine from various directions with air- and sea-based cruise missiles from strategic aircraft and ships.

In addition, there is high activity by the occupiers’ tactical aircraft.

Air defence systems may be operating throughout the entire territory of the state. Stay in the shelters!".

Details: Vitalii Bunechko, the Head of Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration, stated that the flight of missiles over Zhytomyr Oblast had been reported and air defence was operating.

Maksym Marchenko, Head of Odesa Oblast Military Administration, reported that the Russian Federation is carrying out a massive missile attack on Ukraine, and that air defence is operating over Odesa.

One missile was shot down over Sumy Oblast.

Dmytro Lunin, Head of Poltava Oblast Military Administration, reported that air defence systems are also operating in the oblast.

The air defence system has been activated in Kyiv, too. A series of explosions rang out.

At the same time, missile strikes have been reported in Kharkiv; a series of explosions rang out, said Ihor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv.

At 09:21 Kyiv time, Mykhailo Podoliak, Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine claimed that "The ‘malevolent Russian World’ [fired] more than 120 missiles on Ukraine to destroy critical infrastructure and kill civilians en masse".

Background: On the night of 28-29 December, the Russians attacked Kharkiv's energy infrastructure with 13 Shahed UAVs, 11 of which were shot down by units of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Air defence struck down five drones, presumably Shahed UAVs, in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
