Case opened in Ukraine due to "explosive" gift to Chief of Polish police

Law enforcement officers in Ukraine have opened an investigation into the explosion of a grenade launcher, which the Ukrainian side passed to the Main Directorate of the Polish Police.

Details: "A corresponding criminal proceeding was registered the other day, in the framework of which a pre-trial investigation is taking place; people are being interviewed,"said Yenin.

The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs added that the Ukrainian law enforcement officers "are in contact with the Polish side in order to ensure the objectivity of the investigation and learn the appropriate lessons so that similar incidents never happen [again]."

Background:

Last week, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland reported that a "gift from Ukraine" had exploded in the building of the Main Police Directorate of Poland. The ceiling in one of the rooms on the ground floor collapsed, rooms on the second floor were also damaged as a result of the explosion at the Main Police Directorate. Jarosław Szymczyk, the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police, was also injured.

Later it became known that the "gift" was one of two grenade launchers, which were handed over to the Polish side by Serhii Bondar, Deputy Head of State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Szymczyk said that the grenade launcher exploded when he tried to move it to his office. As he noted, they assured him that the grenade launchers were fired off and thus safe.

Earlier, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine explained how the grenade launcher that exploded in the police headquarters in Warsaw reached Jarosław Szymczyk, Commander-in-Chief of the Police.
