Russia decides to imprison people for "desecration" of St George’s ribbon
The Russian State Duma [Lower House of the Russian Parliament – ed.] has adopted a law on liability for desecration of the St George’s ribbon, i.e., ranging from a fine to imprisonment for up to five years.

Details: Thus, "desecration of the St George’s ribbon as one of the symbols of military glory" will result in a fine of RUB 3 to 5 million [roughly US$22,388 to US$37,313 – ed.] or criminal punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to five years.
Quote: "A legal entity faces a fine of RUB 3 to 5 million with or without confiscation, and an individual faces a fine of up to RUB 3 million or imprisonment for up to three years for the public desecration of the symbol of military glory.
The same acts committed by a group of people through prior conspiracy or on the Internet are punishable by a fine of RUB 2 to 5 million [roughly US$14,925 to US$37,313 – ed.] or up to five years in prison."
Details: The law states that any activity using the symbols of the St George’s ribbon for purposes unrelated to historical memory will be stopped.
At the same time, the Russian authorities will be able to use the ribbons "during a wide range of events".
The corresponding amendments will be made to the federal laws "On Days of Military Glory and Memorable Dates of Russia" and "On Perpetuation of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945".
