In Kyiv, 10 hours without electricity is the reality for today

The situation with electricity supply in Kyiv remains difficult. On Monday, 19 December, all three groups of customers were cut off simultaneously; scheduled power outages are currently not working.

This was reported by Serhii Kovalenko, CEO of Yasno, an electricity supplier, on Facebook

"Another infrastructure facility was added to the list of the damaged facilities, which are undergoing repairs, and due to that there is no electricity in a significant part of the right bank of the city, as well as some places in the oblast. All districts [of Kyiv — ed.] are suffering in the same way," the company executive explained.

According to Kovalenko, all the critical infrastructure in the capital, including hospitals, the water utility, and metro, has been restored and about 20% of the population has electricity.

"Are long blackouts real now in Kyiv? Yes, 10 hours without electricity is, unfortunately, a reality for today.

It is difficult to predict how quickly we will return to stabilisation. Energy workers at all levels simply do not have time to restore the functionality of the system between attacks. However, I hope that tomorrow will be a little better," Kovalenko added.

Background: As of 11:00 Monday, 19 December, Ukraine's power system is in a difficult situation; emergency power outages are ongoing in 10 regions, and recovery may take "a long time."
