Explosions in Kharkiv, Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast: Russians hit energy facilities

Russian forces are striking infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv, and the occupiers’ missiles are being launched towards Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, missiles have been launched on Zhytomyr Oblast, and air defence systems are being deployed in Kyiv Oblast.

Maryna Shevchenko, spokeswoman for Kharkivoblenergo [Kharkiv energy utility company], reported that Kharkiv is completely without electricity.

It is also reported that air defence systems are being deployed in Kyiv Oblast and Russian missiles are approaching the airspace of Zhytomyr Oblast. 

Oleksandr Mamai, Mayor of Poltava, reported that the city is also without electricity.

Vitalii Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, has reported that there have been explosions in the Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of the capital. According to him, all emergency services are already on their way to the scene. 

He has also called on residents to stay in shelters. 

At the moment, all metro lines are temporarily not functioning in the capital. Underground stations are operating as shelters.

Oleksandr Vilkul, Head of Kryvyi Rih City Military Administration, has reported that there have been missile strikes on Kryvyi Rih during a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine on the morning of 16 December. Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has added that there was a strike in a residential building.

Quote from Mamai: "Poltava has no electricity. Residents! Keep calm. While we are without electricity. Turn off all electrical appliances."

Viacheslav Sokolovyi, Head of Vinnytsia Oblast State Council, has confirmed that air defence systems have been activated in the region. "Air defence is operating in Vinnytsia Oblast! Do not neglect your safety," he warned. 

Vitalii Maletskyi, Mayor of Kremenchuk, has reported that there is no heating supply in Kremenchuk (Poltava Oblast), in addition to the lack of power supply, as a result of a large-scale missile attack on 16 December. 

Background: The morning of 16 December started with an air-raid siren sounding throughout Ukraine. Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv Oblast Military Administration, has said that about 60 missiles were launched.
