"Gift from Ukraine" explodes in Main Police Directorate of Poland
A "gift from Ukraine" has exploded in the building of the Main Police Directorate of Poland. General Jarosław Szymczyk, the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Police, was hospitalised as a result of the explosion.
This was announced on Thursday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Poland, writes European Pravda, referring to RMF 24.
The explosion occurred a day before, but the Ministry made an official statement on it only today.
The ceiling in one of the rooms on the ground floor collapsed as a result of the explosion in the Main Police Directorate. The rooms on the second floor, where General Shymczyk's office is located, were also damaged.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed unofficial information to RMF FM that General Szymczyk was taken to the hospital after the explosion. He sustained minor injuries and is being examined.
A civilian employee of the police department also sustained minor injuries, but he was not hospitalised.
"One of the gifts that the commander received during his work visit to Ukraine exploded," the ministry's press service reported.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during his visit to Ukraine, General Shymchyk met with the leadership of the Ukrainian police and the State Emergency Service.
"The gift was made by one of the heads of the Ukrainian services," the press service reported. At the same time, it is not specified what kind of gift it is. According to unofficial information, it was a grenade launcher.
The ministry issued a communiqué more than 30 hours after the incident, RMF emphasises.
Updated: According to unofficial reports, the cause of the explosion in the Main Police Directorate of Poland the day before was a grenade launcher presented in Ukraine, which the police officers were "playing with".
